About the Studio

Ballet de Volee is a small studio in Rockville, Maryland dedicated to the study of classical ballet.  Instruction is based on the Vaganova (Russian) System, but with an emphasis on the needs of each particular student and class.

We strive for discipline and the pursuit of secure classical technique, artistic expression and understanding of the evolution of the art, all within a loving and nurturing environment.  Competition among students is de-emphasized.  The students challenge themselves to ever-higher levels of personal achievement.

We have a student recital once every two years so that most class time is devoted to learning ballet technique rather than preparing for one short performance.  We have open classroom demonstrations in non-recital years so that parents can enjoy watching their child’s progress.

Classes

Ballet de Volée offers classes in classical ballet technique, pointe and variations, as well as character dance.  See a complete list of classes for Summer 2007 and Fall 2007.  School features:

  • Classes for students (boys and girls) age three to adult
  • Class size of 3 to 10 students
  • Daytime weekday classes for home-schooled children
  • Simple dress code

Co-operation, mutual respect, and the development of a secure poised and expressive dancer are important goals.  We strive to provide each student, regardless of professional intent, with a quality education in the art.  Our approach is professional yet fun.

The instructors determine class placement based on age, maturity, and ability.  Enrollment is by semester only.

Instructors

Most classes are taught personally by the school’s owner and director, Ms. Anne Wilcox.  She has performance experience as well as more than 10 years of teaching experience.

World-renowned authority Mr. Vladimir Djouloukhadze teaches the character dance class for the older students.  He is a full-time teacher at the Kirov Academy in Washington, D.C.  His students have won prizes in regional, national, and international competitions.

Mr. Aleksey Tochilin teaches the younger character classes.  He is a summer instructor at the Maryland Youth Ballet and the Washington Ballet and performs locally with various troupes.
